Palmyra: A Brief Encounter

In 2010 I spent only a few hours in Palmyra, Syria. I wandered with my camera, meeting locals and taking pictures almost without thinking, convinced the city would always be there when I returned.

A few years later, much of it was destroyed by ISIS. Those casual photographs became the only trace of that encounter, carrying a weight of loss I could not have imagined. What once felt like simple pictures of ruins turned into my last memory of a city that no longer exists.
